High Quality Insulated Tools

The Electrician Tool Shop

from Mitchell Instrument Co., Inc

Insulated Electrician Tools are essential for the electrical engineer, lineman, technician and installers to effeciently and safely get their wiring, cabling and maintenance tasks complete. The electrical tools by Klein, Cementex and Salisbury are made of high grade metal alloy and fully bonded double dip coated for insulation ratings up to 1000 Volts. We do not carry the less expensive brands for one simple reason . . . they do not last. They have the coating but whats on the inside is what counts when reliability is important.

Electrical Safety Equipment

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is also offered on this site for the safety and confidence of the electrician. Arc Flash Clothing - High Voltage Gloves - Insluated Rubber Sleeves and Blankets - High Voltage Detectors - Arc Flash Components such as helmets and safety shields and more.

The following definitions apply to terminology used in the Electrical Safety-Related Work Practices standards at 29 CFR 1910.335. Tools are hand-held, manually-operated or motor-operated, implements for performing or facilitating mechanical operations. Handling equipment is equipment which is held or operated with the hand. Insulated means separated from other conducting surfaces by a dielectric substance or air space permanently offering a high resistance to the passage of current and to disruptive discharge through the substance or space.

Insulated tools are intended to provide protection against accidental contact with charged energized circuits. For safety purposes PPE ARC FLASH does not recommend working on LIVE Electrical or energized circuits.

Note: Tools are a specific category of handling equipment. When any tool or handling equipment is said to be insulated, it is understood to be insulated in a manner suitable for the conditions to which it is subjected [Reference-ANSI/IEEE Std 100-1984-IEEE, Standard Dictionary of Electrical and Electronics Terms). Otherwise, within the purpose of this referenced definition, tools and handling equipment are considered uninsulated.

Use and care for insulted tools:

Keep tools clean and dry

Inspect insulation prior to each use

If you doubt the integrity of the insulation, destroy the tool or have it re-tested

Follow the manufacturer's temperature recommendations for use

Have a qualified person inspect and re-certify tools annually for safe use

Use other personal protective equipment as necessary
